Prep school Physical Education is led by Georgina Lucy, with the support of Nicky Denton (Head of Senior Physical Education) and Sam Clarke (Director of Sport) all of whom have a wealth of experience managing the department. Pupils are taught by specialist subject staff who teach across both schools.
Girls participate in a range of sports: netball, swimming, hockey, rounders, athletics, cross-country and gymnastics. Optional dance lessons are given throughout the school by experienced and highly qualified staff from Kickz Danceworks. The range of dance lessons includes ballet, modern and tap, and girls successfully work towards examinations.
Girls practice a number of skills and emphasis is placed on teamwork. Regular matches and competitions against other schools are organised for Year 3 upwards. We have a swimming squad which trains regularly and some of our girls have successfully competed up to national level in the Incorporated Association of Preparatory Schools (IAPS) competition. There are a wide range of extra-curricular sporting activities such as trampolining, gymnastics and tennis coaching.
We benefit from being surrounded by 75 acres of beautiful green countryside with tennis and netball courts, lots of space for rugby, football, and rounders, as well as a demanding cross-country track and dance studios. Since 2014, Kent College has developed its Sports provision with exciting developments which include an all-weather pitch and athletics track with a seated viewing area and floodlights, which will be built by October 2016, allowing Kent College to host matches and train on-site throughout the year. There are two indoor sports complexes which offer multi-use courts for badminton, basketball and netball, as well as providing an excellent space for gymnastics, trampolining and a range of ECA activities. The current Sports Hall, which also has a popular indoor climbing wall, was built in 1999 and officially opened by Olympic gold medallist, Roger Black MBE. The new Sports Hall, built in 2015 as part of the School’s ambitious Sports development project, was opened by England’s Netball Captain, Pamela Cookie in September 2015. This new facility boasts extra teaching space, and a comfortable viewing balcony. Kent College’s sports facilities also encompass a well-equipped fitness suite featuring the Technogym Wellness system, and a 25 metre, 6 lane, heated swimming pool.
